Europe in the CIA's web

"The investigation by Senator Dick Marty, which cites Italy as one of seven European countries that violated human rights by approving and participating in the kidnapping of Islamists by the CIA ..., raises questions about the servile foreign policy choices of the Berlusconi government," notes editorial writer Giuseppe d'Avanzo. He fears that Italy's new leaders will be unable to react. "Either the current government was informed of what went on by the previous one and has nothing to say because it unconditionally condones the decisions of the last cabinet. Or it is dangerously underestimating the political repercussions on the local and international levels of the CIA's violations [of fundamental rights] in Europe and Italy. We do not know which hypothesis is worse."
