All countries have a duty to help refugees

The Ministry of the Interior estimates that around 800,000 people will seek asylum in Germany this year - more than ever before. The country's solidarity is exemplary, writes the business daily De Tijd: "The Merkel government - which left-wind politicians decry for not showing solidarity in the Greek crisis - has promised to help the refugees. The huge number arriving in Germany is also relative. Two million are expected in Turkey and 1.5 million in Lebanon. … We must be frank: the enormous pressure of migration is a complex problem for any society. But closing borders or building walls is not a solution. The lack of European solidarity to relieve the plight of the refugees is a terrible thing."
