Obama must rethink foreign policy

US foreign policy is in a deep crisis, political scientist Valentin Naumescu comments on the blog Contributors in view of the advance of Isil's troops in Iraq: "Nothing has gone according to Washington's plans. Neither the reconstruction of Iraq, nor democracy in Egypt, nor the peace between Israelis and Palestinians, nor its relations with the Western Europeans. And the pressure on Russia to respect the principles of international law has also had no effect. ... America has lost control over the big political issues in the world - if it ever had control over them at all, that is. This must be worrying to those who uphold the traditional values of the Western system. US foreign policy has reached an impasse. No doubt it's now time to rethink it."
