Sarkozy again at the centre of bugging affair

New recordings of conversations incriminating French President Nicolas Sarkozy have come to light. He is said to have tried to influence judges who were investigating illegal party donations. The investigative news website published the recordings on Tuesday. Finally the media are focussing on what's really at stake, the left-liberal daily Libération writes in delight: "One can't help wondering at the ploys, the false conversations used to fool the police and the insults hurled at the judges. ... Suddenly the false polemics orchestrated all last week by [Sarkozy's party] the UMP about who knew what in the government seem ludicrous. And doubly so the efforts to portray Sarkozy as a victim. ... Finally we're getting to the heart of the matter, namely the search for the truth regarding how Nicolas Sarkozy made use of his power as president of France."
