Intervention in Syria would support terror

US President Obama is in a tight spot over Syria, the liberal business paper Hospodárske noviny comments: "You can't just react to chemical weapons attacks in Syria with a tactful silence. However it's not clear exactly who used them. It suits the Americans to assert that this crime against humanity was committed by the Assad regime. ... Even if since the beginning of the so-called Arab Spring Western politicians have tried to cast things in this light: this is not a fight between an evil dictatorship and a good democratic movement. It's a power struggle between radical Islamists and secular dictators, rendered even more complicated by sectarian violence between Sunnis and Shiites. ... The US's real enemies are the Islamist fanatics whom Obama is indirectly supporting in Syria. A military intervention in Syria would be a war in support of terror."
