The betrayal of the Italian Constitution

As the 60th anniversary of the Italian Constitution is being celebrated this December 27th, Michele Ainis considers that "our Constitution has been the victim of a triple treachery all these years. Most citizens do not know it and if they do, it is for its faults. For thirty years the political class has been conveying an image of a faulty text. But the gravest betrayal has been the latest: our Charter has been flouted since its birth, because its institutions were only installed belatedly and often in a deformed, altered manner. ... This betrayal is pretty much the original sin behind the lawlessness that surrounds us: you cannot respect laws once you are aware that it is not necessary to respect the highest law of all, the mother of all laws."
