Cameron breathing new life into musty EU

British Prime Minister David Cameron visited Bucharest and Warsaw on Wednesday and Thursday as part of his European campaign tour for a reform of the EU treaties. His tour is giving the EU fresh impetus, the Romanian service of the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle writes: "The British leader didn't mince his words, and said for the first time that the EU was built on unrealistic expectations. In the cushy environment of Brussels his direct style comes like a breath of fresh air. And if you think about it, Cameron's proposals are the major reform that the EU has been waiting for. ... But first of all Brussels must put an end to its hypocrisy and cringing, 'gentle' style. ... The leaders of continental Europe act as if everything were wonderful and the only ones to blame for Europe's poor state of affairs were the 'populists' and 'nationalists' who are poisoning the atmosphere out of pure spite."
