Dream of jihad highlights adults' failures

A 17-year-old was arrested on Tuesday in the Romanian city of Craiova for purportedly writing on his Facebook page that he wanted to die as a martyr in Syria or Europe for the IS terrorist organisation. The adults in his environment are to blame for his radicalisation, the news portal Ziare argues: "With a broken family and a harsh father, the youth found refuge with his grandfather and a friend who wound up playing a father role and who then - rather than educating him - introduced him to certain ideas and converted him to his cause. ... A crisis during adolescence can become chronic if a young person feels lost faced with the indifference of his parents - and presumably also of his teachers. The widening gap between our youths and those who are supposed to be teaching them has become a mass phenomenon. Family and school ties are now seen as nothing more than obligations to fulfil: teachers give lessons and parents punish, without understanding the real reasons for their mistakes."
