Crisis not to blame for violence in Greece

A group of around 30 right-wing extremists attacked the conservative MP Giorgos Koumoutsakos during a demonstration outside the parliament in Athens on Thursday. This violence is not a result of the economic crisis, the liberal website Protagon argues: "At some stage we must admit that there is a considerable number of people in Greek society who see violence and shouting as a form of political dialectics. But the crisis has nothing to do with this. The crisis just provides them with an alibi and political legitimacy. … It's time to stop the analyses and start the interrogations. If all the violent people of all political persuasions are put behind bars they will understand that democracy answers with legitimacy."
