Denmark's discriminatory citizenship policy

Denmark's centre-right government has tightened the regulations for receiving Danish citizenship. Among other things citizenship rights already granted to adherents of Sharia law can now be repealed. This decision will lead to the exclusion of dissenters, the centre-left daily Politiken objects: "We have just commemorated the tenth anniversary of the publication of the Muhammad cartoons and celebrated freedom of opinion as an important pillar of democracy. As long as people respect the law and abstain from violence, their twisted opinions deserve nothing more than counterarguments. ... Now only those who share our views are to be granted citizenship. ... This establishes a precedent of removing those with undesirable opinions from the citizenship list. Who will be next? Communists, Nazis, environmentalists?"
