Exodus to Europe: Croatia now in for problems

Hungarian border police closed the last gap in the border fence with Serbia on Monday. The liberal daily Jutarnji List believes it knows which route the refugees will take to Western Europe now: "It would be a true miracle if the refugees didn't start trying to get to Austria, Germany or other attractive Western European countries via Croatia instead of Serbia now. The group of refugees that came to Croatia via Ilok could be the first sign of this. It's hard to believe that it was just pure coincidence that the refugees arrived there. … The real difficulties with the migrants are likely just beginning. That goes for Croatia, but also for Serbia and Macedonia. It was easy to show compassion and solidarity as long as we knew that the refugees didn't want to and wouldn't stay. … Now it will be more difficult if they stay for much longer or are sent back from country to country."
