Legalise prostitution and drugs

Human Rights Watch called on Monday for the possession of drugs to be legalised. Prior to this move Amnesty International had demanded that prostitution be decriminalised. The centre-left daily Politiken praises both initiatives: "The sensational announcements by the two organisations represent a breakthrough in the fight for human rights. After decades of futile campaigns against drugs that have cost billions of kroner and destroyed the lives of millions of people, the world must now try a different approach. In the same way we must recognise that the ban on prostitution leads to more violations of human rights than when prostitution takes place within a defined legal framework."
