Sweden Democrats stir trouble against EU migrants

Around a thousand people demonstrated in Stockholm on Tuesday against a poster campaign by the Sweden Democrats at one of the city's metro stations which apologised in English for the number of beggars. All this attention is precisely what the far-right party was aiming for, notes the social democratic daily Aftonbladet: "The campaign is not directed at visitors to Stockholm. … It targets the Swedish debate and the goal is not really to apologise. Instead it wants to get us talking about the issue the Sweden Democrats want on the agenda. We're not supposed to talk about the poverty in which the growing number of EU migrants in Sweden are living. Nor should we talk about the inability of Swedish society and the EU to deal with the situation. Instead we're supposed to talk about 'organised' begging and how poor people from Romania and Bulgaria are damaging the image of Sweden's welfare state."
