Look into sales of land to Russians

In Finland reports about Russians buying up plots of land near military facilities and other strategically important locations have been causing a stir for weeks. Defence Minister Carl Haglund has called for authorities to be allowed to prevent such purchases of land in future. Finally this important debate has been initiated, comments the liberal daily Savon Sanomat: "It's difficult to predict what security risk the Russian plots of land pose. And precisely this argument has been used to sweep the whole affair under the carpet and deliberately mix it up with other sales of real estate to Russians. Of course there's nothing wrong with Russians having holiday homes. On the contrary, in many regions they help prop up the economy. Like security policy as a whole, restrictions on real estate transactions will no doubt be a topic in the election campaign - one that demands objective and analytic debate."
