Euro Group must reach out to Athens

Greece's new Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis announced on Saturday that he would present a solution for a debt deal by the end of May. He also announced plans to travel to Berlin soon. Everyone, and not just Greece, will have to make compromises in the negotiations, the business paper Hospodářské noviny warns: "The Euro Group mustn't just fold its arms and wait for Syriza to come to its senses. The fairytale that the lazy Greeks who don't want to pay their debts are to blame for everything is not true. The troika has also made many mistakes in the Greece crisis. ... Whether the creditors like it or not, Greece's debts must be reduced. If the EU had done this sooner Syriza might not be in power now. ... On the other hand they must insist that the reforms continue. Syriza has this in its reform programme to a certain extent, especially as regards the fight against interest groups."
