Bratušek stumbles not only over incompetence

The Slovenian Alenka Bratušek withdrew her candidacy for the post of European Commissioner on Thursday after failing to convince the MEPs in her European Parliament hearings. It was not only her lack of knowledge on energy issues but also a conspiracy that led to her rejection, the left-liberal daily Novi List criticises: "Right from the start Slovenia's ex-prime minister Janez Janša accused his party colleague [and Commission president] Jean-Claude Juncker of 'stabbing him in the back' and taking revenge with Bratušek's nomination. Slovenia's most famous prison inmate recently posted a video from his cell - equipped with computer and Internet access - to all the MEPs showing Alenka Bratušek singing the workers' song Bandiera Rossa and thus supposedly honouring communism. But her problem wasn't ideology, it was incompetence."
