Croatia insisting on pointless bridge

At the Berlin Conference of Western Balkan States, Croatia plans to make its approval for construction of a section of motorway along the coast of the Adriatic and the Ionian Sea conditional on it receiving EU funds for the "Pelješac Bridge". The bridge would connect the two sections of Croatia's state territory separated by Bosnia. This is nationalist nonsense, the left-liberal daily Novi List complains: "If Bosnia joins the EU and the borders disappear this bridge will become nothing but a trivial local crossing for which Croatia is willing to pay hundreds of millions of euros and which will be irrelevant in ten to fifteen years' time. ... This section is an important project that will advance the integration of the region. But precisely this is what the self-appointed guardians of our national interests fear most: integration with our neighbours, even if it only pertains to transport."
