Vote in Ukraine a blow for Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin won't simply accept the pro-Western course of the new Ukrainian leadership, the left-liberal daily Delo fears: "The support for the presidential election has emboldened Kiev to persist with its course. Yesterday Ukraine officially exited the already weakened Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). This is another blow for the Kremlin, and probably the end of the dream of reviving the Soviet empire, which cannot exist without Ukraine. Vladimir Putin has remained silent so far, and distanced himself a little from the rebels in eastern Ukraine. But it seems as if this is just a strategy to create more political leeway for new manoeuvres. One can't shake off the feeling that after the elections the real problems have only just begun for Kiev and the EU."
