Re-election of Lithuania's president in sight

Lithuania's incumbent president, Dalia Grybauskaite, announced as expected on Monday that she will once again run as a candidate in the presidential election in May. She won't have to do much to win the vote, social scientist Ainius Lašas writes on web portal Delfi: "As long as she remains twice as popular as her most dangerous rivals [as is the case right now] all she has to do is look after her image and mobilise her voter base. ... She will no doubt continue to present herself as an anti-system, non-partisan overseer who sceptically watches over the dealings of the political elite. This haughty distrust brings her closer to average voters, because they share the same attitude towards their country's politicians."
