Heads roll too soon in Bulgarian power sector

The heads of Bulgaria's 13 largest state-run electricity companies are being dismissed. The caretaker government's minister of economics, Assen Vassilev, announced the news on Friday. A purge in the energy sector was certainly necessary, but not the task of the caretaker government, the daily Standart comments: "The situation in the energy sector is apocalyptic, which to some extent justifies Vassilev's radical measure. … It's extremely important to expose the deep-rooted problems in the energy industry. … But will this change in staff in the boardrooms have the desired effect and bring transparency and stability? Or will we witness a new purge after the early election [on May 12] that only causes additional chaos?"
