La Repubblica

Founded in 1976 by Eugenio Scalfari and Carlo Caracciolo, La Repubblica is closely aligned with the reformist wing of the ruling centre-left coalition. Nonetheless it is critical of the party's current leader, Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. The paper has its own television channel. The print edition focusses on commentaries. In the summer of 2014 an evening edition available only for online subscribers and as an app was launched.
