Radikal was founded in 1996 as a liberal daily and made its mark with its coverage of cultural topics, its background articles and its well-known columnists. For a long time it was seen as the leading medium for young, urban Turks. After years of declining sales its print version was discontinued and since June 2014 it has only been available in digital form. Like Hürriyet newspaper it also belongs to Turkey's leading media company Doğan Media Group.
