The bird flu threat

"This time, the whole country is on guard," the daily writes after Turkey reported about 15 cases of human contamination - including two fatalities - tied to the animal bird flu epidemic. "The threat is now on Greece's doorstep and the disease is striking more and more human victims. The alarm bells have already been sounded in hospitals in the border regions, as well as in villages. According to the health minister, there is no need to to worry since the two countries have different lifestyles. But that is not where the question lies. Turkey and Greece engage in cross-border exchanges (of goods and merchandise, and between people) on a daily basis, especially on the islands. We can therefore not rule out that this scourge will reach Greece and the rest of Europe."
