Finland tightens Sex-Trade Laws

Finland has tightened its laws on prostitution and pimping. In future, soliciting or using the sexual services of minors will be a punishable crime. Barbara Tier sees this as a step forward. "When a society uses legislation to acknowledge that a certain act constitutes a crime, it's a first step towards systematically combating that crime – whether it's white-collar crime, violence, driving under the influence of alcohol or sex trading. Sex trading has been a punishable offence in Sweden for years now, and experiences show that this process is slowly but surely getting off the ground... But it's still a problem that only one party is held accountable in the eyes of the law: the buyer."
