Obituary for the Volga

Russia is stopping production of the Soviet luxury limousine, the "Volga". "Legat" writes an obituary for what was once the preferred vehicle of the Soviet party cadres and has since gained cult status. "The older models, the last of which were produced in the 1970s, embody the 'Russian spirit'. To this day, the first generation of this make of car, which was founded in 1956, still symbolizes the long dead 'Soviet dream'. It wasn't because it represented a breathtaking technological achievement that it became a symbol, but because as soon as you saw it you knew where and when it was built."
