Conflict in the office between women with and without children

"A study published this week found that nearly half of all working mothers felt that childless women were less sympathetic than men to the challenges they face", notes columnist Lesley Thomas. "Take the child-free boss's standpoint: her enormous tax bill is helping fund time away from work for her breeding colleagues. Mum wants to work three days a week when she - finally - comes back, and clock off at 5.30 on the dot, while baby-free boss slogs on until 8pm. Children, it seems, are seen as a passport to skiving. ... while we are fighting among ourselves, we have taken our eye off the ball. What we are collectively striving for - equality of pay and opportunities - is being eroded. The pay gap between men and women in the top professional jobs, according to a report published by the Chartered Management Institute, has increased for the first time in a decade ... We should be giving one another a leg-up - not aiming stilettos at one another's backs."
