Tanguy Struye de Swielande analyses the privatisation of security

Tanguy Struye de Swielande, professor of political science, notes that "Privatisation now concerns the State's crucial role in matters of national defence and war strategy. The privatisation of security now incontestably entails a new approach to questions of security and defence. The nature of conflicts, the reduction of armed forces and their budgets, the zero death policy, failed States and UN passiveness are so many reasons that explain the rapidly increasing privatisation of security. Modern States and international institutions are not giving themselves the means to match their ambitions. Private security firms have been appearing for ten years, to fill the gaps. States and international organisations are now directly responsible for the development and progress of these firms."
