Free movement of labour in the enlarged EU

Katerina Prochazkova agrees with the conclusions drawn in the report of Vladimir Spidla (EU employment commissioner): "There is no economic argument against lifting the restrictions. On the contrary, the countries which have let in Czechs and Poles have benefited from doing so. The newcomers have boosted employment levels and stimulated their economies. This report is an appeal to all member states to follow the example of Great Britain, Ireland and Sweden and open their labour markets. They really should do this, because free movement is not just an attractive option, but also one of the mainstays of the EU. And damaging a building's main support never pays off."
