Parliament on television

Slovenia is discussing the introduction of TV broadcasting of parliamentary sittings. Andrej Poznic is against the plan. "Members of parliament insulting each other is a political tradition and hardly unusual. We can't expect all politicians to be wise and experienced speakers who can win people over to their points of view solely by the power of words... Owing to the particular nature of political debate, it's a good thing that parliamentary sittings take place behind closed doors, where the general public has limited access. Just imagine if these debates where held in public, like they were in Ancient Greece. Within a couple of days there would be civil war! In this respect, TV broadcasting of parliamentary sittings would represent a risk to national security."
