Venice home to the Pinault Contemporary Art Foundation

French industrialist François Pinault is the new owner of the Palazzo Grassi in Venice. In an interview he talks about how he came to choose the city as the venue for his contemporary art foundation and of his love of art. "I gave up on Paris because it was impossible to complete the project in time in the right conditions. I chose Venice because I was in a hurry to give shape to my desire of sharing my passion for art with the public, and the Palazzo Grassi was available. Venice is no ordinary city on the global cultural scene. It is a city of art and culture of the highest order, a city that all artists and art-lovers are familiar with. ... Art is a quest, emotion, nourishment, a necessity, which has helped me to grow, to believe, to open my mind, to understand more things, and even to be more tolerant."
