Theodorakis on a crusade against the Council of Europe

"The Greek composer Mikis (Theodorakis) is disgusted by the draft resolution of the Council of Europe aimed at condemning crimes perpetrated in the name of Communism," the daily reports. Theodorakis, a former communist and the spearhead of the resistance against the dictatorship of the Colonels (1967-1973), mobilises the international community against the Council of Europe and sounds a warning over a "falsification of history and a comparison with Nazism". Having launched an appeal this week, he decided to circulate a petition. According to Panos Pavlou, "we must acknowledge that this draft resolution, which satisifes the European countries who were formerly part of the Eastern bloc, is totally unwarranted in the minds of those who were won over by communist ideology."
