Germany in football fever

Fritz Neumann focuses on the connection between football and racism in his commentary. "Of course there are no-go zones for minorities like foreigners and homosexuals in Eastern Germany, and of course there aren't only "go-zones" in Western Germany. White tourists don't go wandering about Nairobi or Detroit at night. Hosts who don't warn their guests about the dangers risk becoming accomplices to a crime. Right-wing extremism and hooliganism, possibly in conjunction with each other, are the WC organisers' greatest concern...That racism often rears its ugly head at football games is no coincidence. The stadium is a place of anonymity where violence, threats and/or right-wing extremist tendencies have long been tolerated."
