Prime Minister Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz's dwindling importance

Following the recent cabinet reshuffle and a series of ministerial resignations, the Polish media is now speculating about a change at the very top of the cabinet after the Pope's visit to Poland later this month. There are rumours that Jaroslaw Kaczynski, leader of PiS, the largest ruling party, could replace Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz as prime minister. Krzysztof Kozlowski comments: "The quality of Marcinkiewicz's government is declining. There are fewer and fewer competent people while the party's influence is growing and hindering not only reforms, but also the day-to-day tasks of the prime minister... The shakier his government becomes, the less clout Prime Minister Marcinkiewicz has."
