The magic of post-Soviet landscapes

In an interview with Evelina Kustra, Ukrainian writer Juri Andruchowytsch speaks of the magic of Eastern Europe's post-Soviet landscapes and of his latest project in this region: "Post-communist images hold a great fascination for me. And it was this fascination that gave me the idea for the 'Literatura industrial' tour I am currently conducting through eastern Ukraine's most rundown regions with Serhiej Żadan. It looks to me as if social aesthetics have done a complete u-turn since the 1980s. Tourists are beginning to travel to Poland or Ukraine to see the ruins of real-life socialism. These are really good times for romantic post-Soviet landscapes and lovers of 'decaying huts', as [Polish author] Andrzej Stasiuk puts it."
