Magyar Hírlap - Hungary | 07/12/2012

Hungarians no longer need to fear cold season

As of January 1, 2013, private households in Hungary will pay ten percent less for their electricity and gas consumption. The right-wing conservative daily Magyar Hírlap praises the step taken by Viktor Orban's right-wing conservative government, saying it brings great relief to the citizens: "Paying these bills has been a torment for many Hungarians for a long time now. There are countless stories about people who in the winter have had to choose between heating, putting on the lights or buying their increasingly expensive medications. And there are plenty of cases where there was not enough money for any of the above. ... Lowering the price of electricity and gas will make life easier for many families. ... However the joy over the reduction in gas and electricity rates is somewhat dampened by the fact that Hungary currently has the highest rate of inflation in the entire European Union."
