Poles surf Internet placidly

Poland is way behind the European average regarding its network of modern optical fibre connections, which facilitate high-speed Internet access according to the international specialist organisation FTTH Council Europe. This is no big deal, writes the conservative daily Rzeczpospolita, because there is no demand for this in Poland: "Let's not get too worked up about this now. First of all let's ask our acquaintances, parents and grandparents whether they really miss this high-speed service. Residents of rural areas and the suburbs just shrug because all they're worried about is getting the basic speed of two megabits. People in our cities are not complaining about the speed of the Internet because the cable companies already provide good capacity. And the rest couldn't care less about the Internet."
