Polish insurer's successful public offering

The successful floatation of the Polish insurance company PZU last week was the biggest IPO so far this year in Europe, and for Poland the biggest ever. The conservative daily Rzeczpospolita analsyses the company's success: "PZU's business rests on solid foundations and a strong market position. Not without reason did the financial investors hope that the company would quickly find a place on the [most important Polish share] indexes, the WIG20 or the MSCI, making it an essential component of any portfolio. But matters are different when it comes to companies that offer only excellent prospects, the hope or the promise of success on their Initial Public Offering. Only in a bull market do the shares of these companies sell like hot buns."
