Unstable situation

Even if the Czech Social Democrats win the elections they may not gain enough votes to form a government, writes the left-liberal weekly Magyar Narancs: "The political scene in the Czech Republic is still dominated by the duel between the two major parties, the conservative Civic Democratic Party (ODS) and the social democratic ČSSD. ... The most recent surveys indicate that the lead the Social Democrats under Jiří Paroubek had over the conservatives with their candidate Petr Nečas has dwindled. ... The ODS would form closer ties with the EU while the ČSSD would also orient the country towards Russia. ... Today it looks like the Social Democrats will win a narrow victory but fail to achieve an absolute majority. However far more right-wing than left-wing parties will get into parliament. ... So if we had to bet we would say that ... Petr Nečas will soon form a government. Or will we have a grand coalition?"
