Kurdish issue will be resolved in parliament

A high-ranking member of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) on Tuesday contradicted HDP leader Selahattin Demirtaş's statement that Turkish voters had also given their vote to his left-wing, pro-Kurdish party. This conflict is unnecessary because since the parliamentary elections the PKK no longer has any say on the Kurdish issue, the Islamic-conservative daily Zaman points out: "The HDP's success in the elections has ended the government's monopoly on the Kurdish issue. The place for finding a solution is now the parliament, which is guided by precarious balances of power and produces flexible policies. … The pro-Kurdish politicians have scored a magnificent victory outside Kurdish circles, honouring the Kurds with this triumph and forming an alliance with Turkey. This glimmer of hope has rendered the weapons useless; what point is there now in continuing the peace process between [PKK leader] Abdullah Öcalan and the Turkish secret service?"
