Bulgaria entitled to leading role in Balkans

Bulgaria should use the political and economc plight of Romania and Greece to consolidate its leadership role in the Balkans, writes the daily 24 Chasa: "Until not so long ago Greece clearly had the say. As far as EU regional policy was concerned, whether the issue at hand was political initiatives, economic or infrastructural projects nothing went ahead without the consent of our neighbour to the south. But in the past two years Greece has lost its moral right to play its leadership role. ... As far as Romania is concerned, the facts also speak in our favour. ... Between 2007 and 2012, Bulgaria accessed just 20 percent of the EU funds for which it was eligible while Romania got no more than four percent. And despite its shortcomings, Bulgaria's democracy is also more stable and more consolidated than democracy in Romania, as we clearly saw this summer."
