Civil courage against racism in schools

A Polish physics teacher had his pupils calculate how many Syrians you would have to throw out of a boat of a certain size to prevent it from sinking on its way to Greece. Marciin Teodorczyk, a journalist specialised in social issues, is appalled in his blog with the liberal portal Na Temat: "How many teachers do you have to throw out to stop something like that from happening again? ... The school must now try to rehabilitate itself and win back the trust of the parents and pupils. Perhaps it should invite trainers offering anti-discrimination workshops. And refugees should be invited as well, so that the young people can talk to them. Furthermore, pupils should be taught to think critically. They should be able to recognise such ideas in their schoolbooks and respond with civil courage."
