Marine Le Pen outshines Sarkozy in poll

According to a recent survey, a year before France's next presidential elections in April 2012 the leader of the far right Front National party, Marine Le Pen, is ahead of the other presidential candidates with 23 percent support. Le Pen has managed to make her father Jean-Marie Le Pen's often crude ideas socially acceptable, the weekly Kapital writes: "Marine Le Pen's success lies above all in her caution. She has adopted many of the extreme political views of her father on Islam and immigration but presents them in a less provocative tone. The representatives of the working and middle classes who believe there are too many immigrants in France and that Muslims have more rights than they should like this. At the same time Marine has distanced herself from Jean-Marie Le Pen's fascist ideas, like his denial of the Holocaust and his emphatic anti-Semitism."
