Smoking ban not Bulgaria's biggest problem

Bulgaria's new government wants to revoke the smoking ban in bars and restaurants introduced by former prime minister Boiko Borisov in June 2012. Nothing but a cheap PR trick, the online portal Webcafé writes: "The new government wants to put Borisov's authoritarian leadership style behind it forever - including his demonstrably good measures. ... The government still doesn't benefit from enough popular trust to push through unpopular measures. As a result, it prefers to cast itself as a freedom fighter, even if that means abandoning principles. This, dear leaders, is truly spineless populism. The last thing this country needs right now is new 'torches of freedom', hidden under the cloak of equality. ... People wrongly think the cigarette is an expression of independence. Tolerating it is a stupid PR trick that seeks to conceal more important problems behind a veil of smoke."
