When news becomes propaganda

Rupert Murdoch's media have turned news into propaganda, writes the left-liberal daily Delo commenting on the News of the World tabloid scandal: "Given the profitability of The News of the World it's hardly surprising that Murdoch replicated the revolting behaviour of his flagship medium elsewhere. But irrespective of what else comes to light, the phone-hacking scandal demonstrates how news is turned into propaganda. Both are an attack on democracy's most important instrument, namely the separation of the media, the state and political parties. Murdoch combines these organs into a single force that assumes responsibility for nothing and knows no scruples or limits, as we could observe in the UK."
