Pro-Europeans in Chişinău need help

The EU put its funding for the Republic of Moldova on hold this week until a new government has been appointed. The latter is then to negotiate an agreement with the IMF to bring the financial crisis in the country under control. In Romania there is now a discussion about how it can help its neighbour. Not much, entrepreneur George Scarlat writes on the blog portal Contributors: "The calls for Romania to urge Brussels to continue EU funding for Moldova or for Bucharest itself to provide funding are unrealistic. … If Romania were to continue insisting on this, our country would be left isolated within the EU. … But the formation in the Republic of Moldova of a pro-European coalition of parties that excludes the Communist Party would help. … There is no other way and prolonging the agony could only worsen the situation or lead to an unprecedented disaster the consequences of which would be difficult to predict."
