Bratislava a gastronomic wasteland

Star chef Pavel Pospíšil has described Bratislava as a gastronomic wasteland, triggering a huge outcry. The liberal daily Sme holds that consumers are also responsible: "There are only few possibilities for eating good food at decent prices. And the expensive restaurants are no good either. This has an impact on tourism: visitors are loath to return to a place where there are no decent restaurants. The consumer has the power to go where he likes the food. Bad restaurants should not be able to survive - unless there is no competition. The restaurateurs see consumers as part of the problem. They are too used to their 'cordon bleu' and unwilling to dig deeper in their pockets for quality and fresh ingredients."
