Global perspectives: Central Africa draws hope

The population of the Central African Republic is delighted at the French intervention and hopes it will give the violence-stricken country a new start, the Central African press agency La Nouvelle Centrafrique comments: "The young people want to play a central role in rebuilding the country. ... They want a new government, made up to 90 percent of the young generation. And they are counting on Mr Tiangaye [prime minister since January] to get the metamorphosis underway. In fact some commentators believe the prime minister's feudal serenity and rhetorical fire are the perfect instruments for calming the socio-political sensitivities of those he confronts on a daily basis. ... By keeping his eyes fixed both on the former regime and the turbaned elements [the Muslim Séléka rebels, who first supported Tiangaye and now challenge him] he could very well put an end to the chaos that plagues the day-to-day running of the government."
