Palestine recognised long ago

With their demand for recognition in the United Nations the Palestinians just want to exert additional pressure on Israel, because for all practical purposes Palestine was recognised long ago, writes the left-leaning daily Pravda: "Palestine has de facto diplomatic relations with many states. It has representatives all over the world and is itself host to envoys from many countries. The fact that these diplomatic missions are not called consulates as such alters nothing about their existence or function. In addition, Palestine enjoys observer status in more than 20 international organisations. The Palestinians have signed numerous trade and investment contracts, including with the EU and the US. ... Strictly speaking the official demand for state recognition serves only to put pressure on Israel."
