Spain's way out of the crisis

Rather than being disheartened by the economic and social crises gripping Spain, the Spanish are taking steps to overcome their country's woes, writes the daily Postimees: "In its pathos the situation is reminiscent of the end of the Franco era and the subsequent years of transition, when the Spanish put the dark times behind them and pinned their hopes on a better tomorrow. Today this common bond no longer exists and a sense of fatigue has emerged in its place. Unemployment is at 42 percent among the country's youths, who are accused of complacency. But in fact most Spanish seem to be in the grips of a sort of mass numbness out of which the intellectuals, writers, scientists and academics are trying to rouse them. Civic associations are establishing networks and organising protest actions, lawyers are filing charges against the rating agencies and banks, while healthcare employees are protesting against privatisation. ... Spain is in a deep social crisis, but the people are seeking their own solution for a better future."
