Catalonian state remains a mystery

The Catalan regional government head Artur Mas announced on Thursday the wording of the questions to be asked in the region's referendum on independence set for November 2014. The questions will be: "Do you want Catalonia to be a state?" and: "Do you want that state to be independent?". The formulation is imprecise, Rosa Paz criticises in the blog Zona Crítica of the left-leaning online daily "Only the second question is clear: independence or not. Crystal clear. But what if the yes wins out only on the first question about whether Catalonia should be a state? What kind of state is it supposed to be? A state like the Free State of Bavaria in the German Federal Republic? Or like the canton of Zurich in the Swiss Confederation? Or the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico?"
